Jack Vettriano: The Bluebird Collection

Scottish artist Jack Vettriano, best known for his painting titled “The Singing Butler” that was sold at Sotheby’s in 2004 for about £750,000, is now offering a limited edition boxed-set of all seven images from The Bluebird Collection of paintings is to be released on 3rd September 2010 to mark the 75th anniversary of Malcolm Campbell’s final World Land Speed record broken at Bonneville in 1935. The box set is limited to an edition of only 75, each costing £2,500.

Bing Crosby’s 1966 Aston Martin DB6 up for auction

Originally owned by the legendary singer and actor Bing Crosby, a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 will go on sale at the Mecum Monterey Auction, August 13-14, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Spa. The interior is reportedly all original, including the cherry wood steering wheel. It is powered by Aston Martin’s famous 4-liter overhead cam straight 6 engine, rated at 282 horsepower. No word on the price of this classic. The buyer of the car will also get a copy of the title with Bing Crosby’s name.

Ever since the James Bond movies have hit the screens, men have tried to impersonate this reel secret agent, if you have the moolah you can actually flaunt your James Bond attitude in a set of wheels driven by the 007 agent in one of his flicks!. One of only two original “007″ DB5s ever made, the silver plated vehicle is also the only one that still survives. Warhol Self-Portrait Sells For 32.5 Million Dollars

A self portrait Andy Warhol in purple and spotting a wild-haired and gaunt look went under the hammer at Christie’s sold for a record 32.5 million dollars at Sotheby’s in New York. According to the auctions giant, this final self-portrait by Warhol captures his “attitude toward presenting his outer self, tempting us with the thought that he might finally let us glimpse his most intimate inner self.”. The portrait which was made just one year before the artist passed away in 1986 measures at about nine-square-foot. It was originally in the ownership of fashion designer Tom Ford and was bought by an unidentified buyer.

Picasso Painting Sets Record Price at Auction

The Brody collection was hailed as of the greatest American collections of modern art ever to come to auction. An anonymous bidder vindicated that assessment yesterday when they bought one of the paintings, Picasso’s “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” for $106 million at Christie’s New York.  Held by the late Los Angeles collectors Frances and Sidney Brody since the 1950s. The second most expensive art work to be auctioned is held by Giacometti’s Walking Man I ($104.3m), followed by another Picasso, Garcon a la Pipe($104.1m). The painting was touted to fetch a mere $70m-$90m.

Lennon’s Hand Written Lyrics Up For Auction

The original scribblings to A Day in the Life, one of the Beatles’ most celebrated songs, are to be sold by Sotheby’s in New York. John Lennon’s lyrics for the epic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band closing track will be sold to the highest bidder on June 18th at the New York auction house. The estimated closing price, according to Reuters: $500,000 to $700,000. The lyric sheet on the block isn’t the final draft, but Lennon’s rough sketch of what eventually became the album track — there are crossed-out words and spelling mistakes, like, “I saw a flim today, oh boy.

Imperial jade stamp seals $12.2m World Record

Sotheby’s Hong Kong auctioned a small cylinder of white jade with an imperial seal at a record $12.4million, double the original price it fetched in 2007. The piece originally belonged to the Chinese Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty. The seal’s face itself has the characters tai shang huang di sharply carved into it, meaning Treasure of the Emperor Emeritus. Another pearl necklace from Emperor Yongzheng estimating to fetch HK$1.55m, earned a massive $8.75m.

Sotheby’s made a new record when they sold a Silver Punch Bowl crafted by Cornelius Kierstede, in New York between 1700 and 1710. It was estimated to fetch anywhere between $400 and 800,000.  But the bid opened at a whopping $275,000 and started at a staggering $500,000! The bid ended with a generous mystery collector who spent stunning $5,906,500! The silver punch bowl, a part of Sotheby’s sale of Important Americana, has descended from the family of Commodore Joshua Loring, in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, the Loring-Greenough House, which is now being preserved as an historic site.
